Formed in Sweden in 2002, Riot Avenue is the third studio album from this 80′s influenced melodic hard rock band. Their last release, New Religion, was an improvement on the first and this is an improvement on that one.
The band features Danny Rexon on vocals, Andy Dawson on guitar, Joey Cirera on drums, and Luke Rivano on vocals, guitar, and bass.
Both the album opener, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, and a track later in the album, Sweet Bad & Beautiful, have all the markings of a good Motley Crue record, starting this album of in a great direction and really setting the scene. Danny Rexon’s vocals are strong and truly compliments the well placed guitar riffs.
Fire It Up and Church of Rock, truly proves this band has truly found its groove. Another track to look out for is In The Night, with bass and guitar licks that tangle with the vocals. But there really isn’t a bad track on this album, plus this is a band who promise to put on a good live show.
As good as this album is though there isn’t anything new and inspiring here that’s going to knock your socks off. It’s good old-fashioned sleazy hard rock in the style of Motley Crue and Skid Row. If you want some new tracks in a style that you know and love, then this album and this band will fit the bill perfectly. However, if you are looking for something different you won’t find it here.
Overall, this album hits the spot and will make it onto the car playlist!
Riot Avenue was released on April 20th by Frontiers Records.
